Legacy

I started reading a book last night. It began like this, “The Christian life is not so much about the hows and wherefores of living righteously on earth as it is about first realizing who God is and then proceeding to love Him so much that His desires become your own.”

I kept reading. The words and wisdom in this book cut through any half-hearted ideas of what it means to know and serve God. It taught a love and relationship that redefines the Christian life. I was left with a profound sense of weight and wonder.

Becoming The Expression Of The Father was published in 2004…posthumously. The author, Charles A. Haun, served as a pastor, braved headhunters and giant pythons at the headwaters of the Amazon, and taught the Bible in Jerusalem, but tragically, his life was taken before he had the opportunity to share his story with the world. His widow, Violet, published her husband’s book and his words and wisdom continued to change lives in this world after he had passed to an eternal one.

Charles Haun left this earth in 1996;  Becoming The Expression Of The Father was published nearly 20 years ago. But the words in his book touched me last night; the truth inside is timeless. Through his book, Charles A. Haun is still preaching and teaching the gospel and changing lives with his words today. His legacy continues to pay dividends in eternity.

What legacy will you leave?

If you have a story to share with the world, please don’t let the little time we have in this world slip by. Share your story with the world now in a book; your words can change lives now, and your book can continue to change lives after your time here is done.

The rest of the story …

Here’s an excerpt from the Introduction:

“The Christian life is not so much about the hows and wherefores of living righteously on earth as it is about first realizing who God is and then proceeding to love Him so much that His desires suddenly become your own. When you become acquainted with the heart of God by living so close to Him that you actually begin to feel His heartbeat, then it is not difficult to become the expression of His love to others around you. Without that, your attempt to love will be a struggle that you will ultimately lose.

For years now, we have labored to find just the right techniques for serving God, but it is not about techniques. It is about a person, the person of God. When we desire to create an atmosphere where His expression can be felt and known, then He begins to work on our behalf and to reveal His power and presence with us and through us. The result is that all those with whom we come in contact know that we are His. This is true Christianity being lived out in our daily lives. This is what it means to become the expression of the Father.

These truths are of infinite value to us because, as Christians, we are not just trying to live an exemplary life down here and make it into heaven. We are preparing for the greater life, for a greater role that God has destined us to play in eternity. What He sees in us here will determine how much He can entrust to our care in the hereafter.”
